Operation Round-up
Members of MEC are participating in an exciting program that offers financial assistance to worthwhile causes in our community.
Small Change...Changes Lives
Can you imagine how you would feel if you or someone you loved were diagnosed with a critical illness? Or how devastating it would be to lose everything you owned in a fire? How would you manage financially? How would you take care of your family's living expenses? Pay your bills?
How are the Funds Collected and Used?
The program is funded through the generous contribution or our members by rounding up their electric bill to the nearest dollar. Funds are used to assist the needy with food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, wheelchair ramps, and other needs. The few extra cents collected from each consumer will contribute about $6 a year to help the needy. If all MEC consumers join in, we will Round-Up more than $25,000 per year!
Who Distributes the Funds?
The program is administered by the Marlboro Electric Trust Board, a board of directors made of community leaders from Dillon & Marlboro county service areas who serve on a voluntary basis.
Operation Round-Up Trust Board establishes the guidelines and policies for granting funds to local families and community organizations. Funds are never used for political purposes. In the past, funds have been used to help people suffering with disabilities, families burned out of their homes, local fire departments, etc.
